Surgery rules Stegmann out

The Blue Bulls suffered a setback in their Currie Cup campaign, with Springbok loose forward Deon Stegmann suffering a fracture to his cheekbone during last Friday's clash against the Pumas.

The loose forward will undergo surgery on Monday and will be out of action for four weeks, team doctor Org Strauss confirmed.

Not only is this a blow for the Bulls, but it brings to an end any hope Stegmann had of making the Boks' World Cup squad - to be named next week.

The men from Pretoria only managed to score one try in the match through Bok wing Bjorn Basson in a game the Pumas could easily have won, had they not made as many unforced errors.

Another concern for the Bulls is skipper Dewald Potgieter, had to undergo surgery to his nose after breaking it for the third time this season.

The Blue Bulls jumped from last position on the log to sixth.
