Sharks to 'nurse' French star

The Sharks will wrap French star Frederic Michalak in cotton wool this week, as they prepare for their Currie Cup encounter with the Leopards in Durban on Friday.

Michalak injured his hamstring in the team's 21-19 win over Western Province at a very wet Newlands last Friday.

Sharks coach John Plumtree admitted there is some concern, but felt that by nursing the French star the flyhalf should be able to face the Leopards.

"Fred's hamstring tightened up, but we'll give him a light week and make sure he's ready for the next game," Plumtree said.

Asked about other injuries, the Sharks mentor said: "We're not in bad shape.

"[We have] one or two little niggles, nothing serious.

"Dale Chadwick rolled his ankle, we strapped him up on the sideline and were able to get him back on and that was crucial at the time."

Asked about this week;'s opposition, the Leopards, Plumtree said recovery is the key.

"The key for us this week is to make sure we get over [last Friday's] game and make sure we have respect for the opposition.

"It's a home game and crucial for us to get the points.

"You can't afford to drop home games in this competition.

"We haven't done very well against the minor unions this year, and this is another test for us to be clinical - to make sure attitude is right."
