Nervous New Orleans win it

Published: Tuesday, 16. August, 2011 in category Southern Hemisphere

For the second week in a row there was a big enthusiastic crowd at Faure Street Stadium in Paarl and for the second week in a row a tense match, also an FNB Classic Clash. Then Paarl Gim won but this time it was New Orleans who beat Klein Nederburg 15-9.

It was a beautiful day in Paarl and again the stadium was packed with happy, singing people. The matches and functions in the sunshine had all been played in excellent spirit. It was no different in the main match though so much was riding on the game.

New Orleans supporters did not relax till the final whistle went, for last year they were leading 17-12 in the last minute when SA Schools wing Lee-Roy Bitterhout scored a try for Klein Nederburg and then converted it for victory. The memory of all that gnawed at the anxious New Orleans supporters. After Klein Nederburg had won the previous four matches.

Asked if he enjoyed the match the New Orleans coach said that he had not enjoyed it. It was all too tense.

With two tries to nil, New Orleans thoroughly deserved the victory.
