Jarryd Goddard - Captain of Hudson Park

It will be an emotional send off for Jarryd Goddard when he leads his Hudson Park team out against Cambrdige High School in their FNB Classic Clashes match this Saturday.

"We've had a good season so far and we want to end the season on a really good note," the First Team rugby captain told classicclashes.co.za.

Goddard will also be hoping that his side can repeat their 52-7 win they had over their rivals earlier this season too.

"The first game sets the tone for the second match. When the second match comes, it is a lot more competitive. But we'll do the best we can as we will be playing for the pride of our school," the flank said.

The 19-year old matric student though is not phased by the challenge of leading his team out against his school's biggest rivals. While he admits that there is some pressure, he feels that he is more than capable of keeping the team together and under control in the match.

And it's no surprise that the 89kg flanker feels so confident in his abilities, as he has been juggling responsibility or more than just the rugby field this year. Goddard is a school prefect and knows what it takes to set a positive example for those around him.

His choice of rugby hero, though, leaves much to be desired. He regards New Zealand captain Richie McCaw as someone to look up to, followed closely by Springbok star Heinrich Brussow.

When asked who he would be supporting in the Tri-Nations match this weekend, Goddard said: "I'll always back the boys in green."

Goddard also played waterpolo and cricket for his school before focusing on rugby on making the first team.

As for the future, the youngster would like to study mechanical engineering in the Eastern Cape but wants to continue playing rugby on a part-time basis.
