LeClue Barnard is hoping to repeat his side, Langenhoven Gimnasium's victory over rivals Hoƫrskool Punt when the two sides meet in their FNB Classic Clash on Saturday.

In their previous meeting, Langenhoven managed to snatch the victory in the dying minutes of the match, despite being dominated throughout the game.

Barnard, though, is realistic on his side's chances: "We are the underdogs," he said. "We haven't had such a great season this year, but I'm confident that my guys will be up for the challenge this Saturday."

The flank is also counting on the support from his schoolmates to see Langenhoven to victory on the field.

The 18-year old Barnard is a keen athlete as he also excels at cricket and does long distance running for his school. Rugby, though, is where his passion lies.

"I've played in almost every position on the field in rugby, but it is at flank where I'm most comfortable," the 76kg matric student told classicclashes.co.za. Barnard's talent and dedication to the sport has been rewarded with calls to the South Western District Eagles' Under-16 Grant Khomo side and he also played at the 2011 Craven Week for South Western Districts.

Barnard likens himself to Springbok star Schalk Burger. "It's because I'm rough and tough like him," he joked.

The teenager has set his heart on going to Stellenbosch University once he completes his schooling, to help contribute to their excellent and proud rugby tradition as a player.
