Preview: Langenhoven Gim vs Punt

Published: Thursday, 18. August, 2011 in category Southern Hemisphere

Hoƫrskool Punt of Mossel Bay go up from the sea over the Robertson Pass the 90km to Oudtshoorn for their FNB Classic Clash against Langenhoven Gimnasium, both strong rugby schools in South Western Districts.

It was close last year in Mossel Bay when Langenhoven Gim came from behind to win 27-23. It would not be a surprise if this year the tables are turned as Punt have a useful side.

Results against common opponents

Oudtshoorn: Langenhoven Gim lost 34-22, Punt 32-30
Oakdale: Langenhoven Gim lost 43-0, Punt 23-11
Outeniqua: Langenhoven Gim lost 20-3; Punt won 25-15

That suggests that Punt have been doing better. In particular their victory over the powerful Outeniqua side was a great feat, one to savour - and last weekend Outeniqua smashed Oudtshoorn.

Provincial representation

The Langenhoven Gim captain., flank Le Clue Barnard is the only one from the two schools who went to Craven Week. The Punt captain, Eddie Prins, has been playing for the South Western Districts Eagles Under-19 side.

Two Punt players made the South Western Districts Academy side - centre Linden Rhode and prop. Flippie Schutte

Langenhoven Gim's scrumhalf Johan Steyn went to the Grant Khomo Week for South Western Districts.

It should be a close affair.
