Lambie and Steyn in the clear

Springbok utility backs Patrick Lambie and Frans Steyn have been cleared as available for selection to the World Cup squad, Springbok management confirmed on Monday.

Steyn missed Saturday's Tri-Nations Test with a slight hamstring strain he picked up in the clash with the Wallabies in Durban the week before, and Lambie replaced him at fullback for the game against the All Blacks in Port Elizabeth but went off with a shoulder injury after 20 minutes.

Lambie underwent a series of tests on Monday and team doctor, Dr Craig Roberts, reported that he had suffered a sprain of the AC joint in his left shoulder and would require rehabilitation and management, but added that it was not serious enough to rule him out of contention.

Steyn is receiving ongoing rehabilitation to his hamstring injury and is well on the road to recovery.

Both players are able to cover most positions in the backline and their versatility makes them valuable assets in a World Cup squad. The Springbok squad will be announced at 19.30 (SA time) on Tuesday, August 23.
