Former All Blacks utility back Luke McAlister, who has signed a three year contract with French champions Toulouse, arrived at his new club on Monday.
The 27-year-old - who can play at both flyhalf and centre - had been granted an early release from his New Zealand rugby contract to allow him to play for the French side.
McAlister, who has already experienced European rugby having played for English side Sale from 2007 to 2009, was a key member of New Zealand's 2007 World Cup squad but the 30-times capped back failed to force his way into the All Blacks squad for the upcoming edition.
"I'm happy to be here and in form even if I haven't played for three weeks," McAlister told AFP on his arrival at Toulouse airport.
Toulouse backs coach Jean-Baptiste Elissalde said however the Kiwi player would not be ready to play the season opener against Bayonne on Friday.
"He won't be fit to play the first match or even the first two. Whether he plays (number) 10, 12 or 15 he has to know our rugby by heart, that risks taking some time," he said.
