Nicholas Roebeck - Captain of Rondebosch

The weight of expectation isn't something that Nicholas Roebeck is worried about when he leads his Rondebosch side out against traditional rival, Bishops, in their rugby match on Saturday.

Roebeck is just eager to get onto the field and "put in a good performance."

"The atmosphere at school has been great. The boys can't stop talking about the upcoming game," the loosehead prop told classicclashes.co.za.

The excitement around the game has been justified as Rondebosch ran out 34-18 winners when the two sides met earlier this year. Bishops had raced into an early 15-0 lead only for Rondebosch to find their feet and take the win. Bosch's opponents have also not had a happy time of it of late, going down to a surprise defeat to SACS over the weekend past and just scraping a win over Wynberg the week before.

Roebeck though is wary of underestimating his opponents.

"You can't count Bishops out. We didn't get off to a great start to the season, but we got it together. Bishops can do the same, but we're hopeful that it's not against us," he said.

When asked if his side was on the same level as the legendary side of the mid-90's (that had Gcobani Bobo and the Shimange brothers), the matric student said: "We're not trying to be the same as any other side. We just go out there and do our best."

The Bosch captain says that he admires Springbok skipper John Smit for his leadership and wants to emulate the World Cup winner's captaincy style.

Roebeck has taken a step in the right direction then, after signing with up with the Sharks Academy.
