ABs to be fined for Haka breach

New Zealand's players face being fined by the International Rugby Board if they continue to breach protocol during the execution of their pre-match war dance, the Haka.

Reports in New Zealand's Sunday Star Times and Australia's Courier Mail newspapers revealed that the All Blacks have been put on notice by the IRB.

The Wallabies, according to the reports, had alerted the IRB over an alleged breach of the protocol by the All Blacks while performing their personalised "Kapa o Pango" haka before the opening Bledisloe Cup match of the year at Eden Park on August 6.

According to the reports lock Ali Williams broke IRB protocol in Auckland by advancing past the 10-metre line.

The lanky Kiwi lock repeated his 'transgression' in Saturday's rendition of the Haka, before the Wallabies claimed the Tri-Nations with a 25-20 win in Brisbane - despite the IRB directive.

After a number of potentially unsavoury incidents involving the Haka and teams being placed in compromising positions, the IRB has declared the two sides must stand either side of the 10-metre line near halfway.

The reports said the IRB had noted the breach and said it would impose fines during the world cup for breaking protocol.

During the tournament, the buffer will be reduced to 10 metres, with teams allowed to stand on halfway.
