France's Top 14 got under way over the weekend with six matches on Friday and the seventh on Saturday. All the results, bar one, went the way of the home sides. Agen were the only side to win away from home. Not even Toulouse could win across in the Basque country.
Only Stade Français got a full house of five points. Brive and Toulouse each got a bonus point for being close losers.
The teams are, of course, much weakened with players from France clubs representing France and 11 other countries.
There are two new sides in France's Top 14 this season - Lyon and Bordeaux who have replaced relegated La Rochelle and Bourgoin. The 14 clubs taking part are: Agen, Bayonne, Biarritz, Bordeaux, Brive, Castres, Clermont, Lyon, Montpellier, Stade Français, Perpignan, Racing-Métro, Toulon, Toulouse. Lyon and Bordeaux both started with away matches against good sides and both went down.
In seven matches 21 tries were scored =- 11 of them when Stade Français and Toulon scored eight.
