A century after the first 1st XV match between Bishops and Rondebosch, Bishops recovered from the loss in the second term to beat their great rivals before a huge crowd across Sandown Road 37-12 at Rondebosch on Saturday.

Bishops produced a sparkling second half of their traditional brand of sparkling rugby.

There was not much in it in the first half as the two packs of forwards had a go at each other. SA Schools flyhalf, Tim Swiel, playing fullback where he has played for a large part of the season kicked a penalty and then Rondebosch got a try when left wing Selom Gavor went over in the corner. Hilio de Abreu converted from far out and the home side led 7-3.

Bishops got the lead back when Andrew Jones-Davies, the grand son of the Sixties Springbok Dave Stewart, darted over for a try.

That was a try each for the first half. The second half was a big change as Bishops scored five tries to one and ran away with the match. The basis for the try-scoring was a great effort by the Bishops pack who got the upper hand.

Much of the good work was done by Swiel's running from behind and Johnny Kotze's cleverness at centre.
