Cheetahs centre Corné Uys has emerged as a target for English Premiership side Newcastle Falcons, who are looking for a replacement for Gcobani Bobo.

Former Springbok centre Bobo's contract with the club was not renewed at the end of last season, and the Falcons have been in talks with Uys over a move to England.

As the Premiership is about to kick off this weekend, Uys could be playing for a new team by the end of the month.

Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské confirmed that Uys could be on his way overseas, and that he would happily grant the 28-year-old an early release from his contract.

"We told Corné we will release him if things work out for him overseas," Drotské told Volksblad.

"We already have four contracted centres for next year. He has always been honest with us and told us he would like to go overseas and finish his career there."

The only hold up for the former Western Province centre appears to be acquiring all the necessary paperwork and visas.
