Fullback Kurtley Beale has won the John Eales Award as top Australian rugby player of the year.

The 22-year-old Beale polled 127 votes in the award announced Thursday, five more than hooker Stephen Moore in voting by all 22 members of the match-day squad in each Wallaby Test over the past year. The award is named after the 55-Test former Australia captain.

Beale, who will play for the Melbourne Rebels Super 15 team next season, won the Wallabies rookie of the year award in 2010.

ACT Brumbies utility back Pat McCabe took the rookie award this year while 35-year-old back rower Radike Samo had the try of the year - a 60-meter solo effort against New Zealand last Saturday in Australia's 25-20 win.
