The Cheetahs have managed to secure the services of star Springbok flank Heinrich Brüssow for another two seasons thanks to valuable input from coach Naka Drotské and some Bloemfontein businessmen.

The breakdown ace, who will be central to the Springboks hopes of retaining the World Cup in New Zealand, was fielding big offers from all over the globe but his agent Stephan Weyers confirmed to Volksblad newspaper that the Cheetahs were eventually able to keep him in Bloemfontein.

Weyers acknowledged the vital role that Drotské had on Brüssow's decision to stay with the only provincial team he has ever represented as well as the contributions made by many local bussinessmen to ensure the contract was competitive, if not the most lucrative received.

However, it would appear that personal reasons also played a big role in the final decision with Brüssow reluctant to leave Bloemfontein where he has settled down after leaving Grey College.

Weyers explained: "Heinrich could earn more money at other places, but he is happy in Bloemfontein where he owns property, has shares in businesses and is close to his parents, girlfriend and friends.

"Heinrich wants to play for the Cheetahs. He is loyal towards his teammates, coaches and supporters and is positive about the future of Cheetahs rugby," said the agent.

The ball thief from Bloemfontein's contract extension is a massive boost for the Cheetahs who often have talented young players poached by bigger unions with deeper pockets.
