Toulon want a coach

Now that Philippe Saint-André is to take over the coaching of France in succession to Marc Lièvremont, Toulon are looking for a coach and this week's approach failed.

Mourad Boudjellal, the Toulon president, approached Daniel Herrero to appoint him to the position of director of sport, hoping that he could team up with Tana Umaga, but Herrero declined the offer.

Herrero is one of Toulon's iconic figures. He played for Toulon and then coached the club from 19883 to 1991, a successful period in which Toulon were champions in 1987 and beaten finalists in 1985 and 1989. He won 22 caps for France as a loose forward.

Herrero is now 73 years of age.
