Catrakilis blow for WP

Published: Wednesday, 7. September, 2011 in category Southern Hemisphere

Western Province suffered a huge blow ahead of their Currie Cup encounter with the Leopards on Saturday, with the news that star flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis has been ruled out for a month.

Catrakilis, who suffered a bicep injury in the impressive 41-35 victory over Griquas last week, has been replaced by forgotten journeyman Isma-eel Dollie - who returned to Cape Town this year after failed bids to advance his career in Australia (with the Brumbies) and Japan.

While Dollie, a one-time Springbok squad member back in 2008, does bring some experience, the loss of Catrakilis is a major setback for Province.

Catrakilis, undoubtedly the find of the season, is the Currie Cup's latest 'Player-of-the-Month' award winner and the competition's second highest points scorer - behind the Sharks' Frederic Michalak.

W{ coach Allister Coetzee, apart from the change at flyhalf, named Quinn Roux start at lock ahead of De Kock Steenkamp, who drops out of the matchday 22.

Frans Malherbe starts at tighthead prop, with Brok Harris shifting to the bench.

Wicus Blaauw returns from his conditioning stint and stars at loosehead prop, with Steven Kitshoff returning to the Under-21 ranks.

On the bench loose forward Siya Kolisi and hooker Deon Fourie return from injury, whilst Nic Groom replaces Louis Schreuder as scrumhalf cover.
