    Eagles fall to South Africa in Cup Quarterfinal

    The Eagles managed only one try against South Africa in the Cup Quarterfinal match of Glasgow 7s on Sunday. South Africa, series winners in Las Vegas and Tokyo, played a clinical match and capitalized on U.S. penalties to dominate the game with a score of 22-5 and knock the Eagles out of the Cup.

    California fought back to tie the Varsity Cup National Championship with six minutes remaining on a try by Seamus Kelly and conversion by Jake Anderson before BYU flyhalf Jonny Linehan kicked a 17-meter drop goal at the end of injury time to win the Varsity Cup National Championship, 27-24, for the Cougars Saturday on South Field.

    The Men’s Eagles Sevens defeated France 21-14 at Glasgow Sevens Saturday to earn a spot in the Cup Quarterfinals. With Scotland’s 1-2 record in pool play, the Eagles will not have to participate in the promotion/relegation tournament at Marriott London Sevens next weekend.
