Ray Mordt turns uncle Saint
2008-09-30 17:21:20

Nils Mordt, nephew of Springbok legend Ray Mordt, could make his run-on debut for the Northampton Saints in their Premiership clash against Leicester Tigers on Wednesday.

The Zimbabwean-born 24-year-old centre signed with Northampton for the 2008/09 season from London Irish, and will make his Saints debut on Wednesday should he be sent on as a replacement at Welford Road.

Saints director, Jim Mallinder, is in turn looking forward to experiencing his first East Midlands derby, in a gruelling midweek fixture against the 2007/08 Grand Finalists.

"It is another big game for us," Mallinder said on Tuesday.

"Welford Road is always a challenging place to go. Leicester will be fuming from losing at the weekend and will be going all out for the win," he added.

Mallinder has made five changes to the squad that played Saracens, seeing Ben Foden make his first start at scrumhalf, while Chris Mayor comes in at inside centre.

Northampton Saints: 15 Stephen Myler, 14 Chris Ashton, 13 Joe Ansbro, 12 Chris Mayor, 11 Bruce Reihana (captain), 10 Carlos Spencer, 9 Ben Foden, 8 Roger Wilson, 7 Scott Gray, 6 Mark Hopley, 5 Christian Day, 4 Ignacio Fernandez Lobbe, 3 Euan Murray, 2 Dylan Hartley, 1 Tom Smith.
Replacements: 16 Paul Shields, 17 Soane Tonga’uiha, 18 Alex Rae, 19 Ben Lewitt, 20 Lee Dickson, 21 Nils Mordt, 22 Sean Lamont.

Date: Wednesday, October 1
Venue: Welford Road, Leicester
Kick-off: 19.45 (18.45 GMT)
Referee: Chris White
Touch judges: Alan Hughes, Don Helme
TMO: Trevor Parlett
