Jones goes under the knife

Worcester Warriors have confirmed that former Wales international front row Ceri Jones is set for an enforced spell on the Sixways sidelines after successfully undergoing shoulder surgery.

Powerful prop Jones – who has won two caps for his country - joined Warriors from Harlequins last year, having made a huge impact at The Stoop and featured in over 200 games for the club.

The 34-year-old loosehead, who linked up with Richard Hill for a second spell having previously worked together at Newport, has made three appearances for Warriors this season after his debut against Saracens in the Aviva Premiership in September.

However, Jones will now start rehabilitation from an operation on his left shoulder after originally suffering the injury in pre-season.

Head Coach Richard Hill said: "We are all disappointed for Ceri after he was first injured on our pre-season camp in Geneva.

"We have been able to successfully manage the shoulder injury and, after he missed pre-season to recover, he featured for us in the Premiership. However, he has since aggravated the injury during our league game with London Irish and has now had to undergo surgery. We all wish him well with his rehabilitation.

"Ceri will be missed but Matt Mullan has been playing exceptionally well for us in the opening weeks of the season.

"His absence will also open the door for George Porter who has impressed us all since his arrival from Plymouth Albion and I'm sure will want to take this opportunity for more senior rugby."
