England and Leicester centre Manu Tuilagi will spend six weeks on the sidelines after suffering a fractured cheekbone, his club confirmed on Thursday.

Tuilagi, one of the few players to emerge from England's dismal World Cup campaign with his reputation enhanced, picked up the injury after playing in Leicester's 40-14 win over Gloucester last week.

The Samoan-born centre, who landed himself in disciplinary strife following England's World Cup exit after jumping off a ferry into Auckland harbour, injured himself after a collision with Scott Lawson.

"Manu suffered a broken cheekbone after a clash of heads in the Gloucester game and we'll be without him for about six weeks," Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill confirmed.
