Loose forward Tinus du Plessis, who was one of Namibia's outstanding players at the Rugby World Cup has signed for London Wasps, according to the Namibian paper Die Republikein.

It is not his first excursion to England as he previously played for Rotherham Titans and was their player of the Year in 2009. The 27-year-old who was born in Windhoek and went to school there before going off to Stellenbosch University, has played 23 times for Namibia. When Namibia lost heavily to the Springboks he was named Man of the Match.

The contract which he signed with Wasps this week is valid till the end of May with an option of a further two years. Du Plessis said: "I am excited about the challenge and if it is the Lord's will I will end my playing career at Wasps. It is every guy's dream to play at a high level. believe me, I'm going to grab the opportunity with both hands to play with players like Marco Wentzel and other players with international experience. It's a privilege to move and carry on your career in such company."

Asked how he would feel about playing against his national captain, Jacques Burger who plays for Saracens, Du Plessis said: "It's never easy to play against Jacques. Luckily Wasps and Saracens have already played in the first round of the league but I would look forward to the January encounter.

"We are good friends and get on well together. Like all Namibians, we will be throwing some meat on the coals together."

Du Plessis is waiting on his work permit but the club would like him to make his debut on 26 November. And he would like play again for Namibia whenever there was a chance.
