Harlequins have announced that Sam Smith has re-signed with the club until the end of the 2013/14 season.

Another product of the Quins academy, Smith came to the attention of the Quins coaching staff through the EPDG system. He was offered a full contract in 2007, and made his first XV debut in a Quins shirt in the pre-season friendly against Connacht in August 2008.

At only 21 years old, Smith has made 22 appearances for the London club, scoring an impressive 12 tries. He has represented England at Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20 levels, and was part of the U18 squad which won the 2008 Six Nations Grand Slam, along with going to Argentina for the U20 Junior World Cup in 2010.

An intelligent player with great pace, and with an impressive try scoring record, Sam has become an important part of Conor O'Shea's match day squad.

Sam Smith, said he is "excited" to have re-signed to such a great club.

"There is so much young talent coming through and, having grown up at Quins with a lot of the players I know the importance of these relationships on the pitch," he said.

"We have a great group of players and coaches, and I am grateful for all the support I have had to get me to where I am. It has been a great season so far and I am looking forward to the future with the club. I have always wanted to be a Quin and I am enjoying every bit of it."

Director of Rugby, Conor O'Shea expressed his delight at the development.

“We are thrilled Sam has committed to us. He is a young player with a really professional attitude and an uncanny ability to score tries," O'Shea said.

"Sam is an example to all young players with how he conducts himself, both on and off the pitch. I have no doubt that with his work ethic he will continue to improve in all aspects of his game, and score a huge number of tries for this club.”
