Bad break for Sarries' De Kock

English champions Saracens have suffered a blow with the news that veteran South African scrumhalf Neil de Kock has been ruled out for 8-12 weeks with a fractured arm.

De Kock was injured in the 42-17 win over Treviso in the first round of the European Cup and subsequently underwent surgery to remove a plate in his arm from a previous break to aid the healing process.

The injury could not come at a worse time for Saracens as their England scrumhalf Richard Wigglesworth is currently sidelined for the rest of the season with a knee injury, leaving them desperately thin on halfback resources.

The pressure now falls on 19-year-old Ben Spencer who joined from Cambridge on a short-term deal in August and found himself in the thick of the action when De Kock went off against Treviso.

It is not clear whether manager Mark McCall will look to find a short-term replacement for De Kock or if he will put all of his faith in young Spencer.
