Redpath: Delighted with victory

Gloucester dominated the battle up front, allowing their talented three-quarters to display their skills.

Their reward was two tries each from Jonny May and Olly Morgan, while Luke Narraway and Henry Trinder also touched down.

Freddie Burns kicked nine points to top up the total, while Wasps managed a single try from Elliot Daly as well as five points from the boot of Nick Robinson.

"That was the best we've performed all season," said Redpath.

"It's all about confidence. We've had two wins over Connacht, albeit scrappy ones, but today we were all singing from the same sheet and played with far greater control."

Inexperienced pair Burns and Trinder both had impressive games and drew special praise from Redpath.

"They are the future, they will have bad days and they will need to learn from them but our pack were exceptional today to give them the platform they needed," he said.

Redpath confirmed that World Cup-winning centre Mike Tindall, who was present at the game, had not been selected.

He said: "(Tindall) subsequently picked up an illness but was not in the selected side. I wanted to use Henry Trinder's left foot in midfield and Mike will have to fight for his place like everyone else."

Gloucester's next assignment should be tougher, with a trip to Saracens on New Year's Day.

"We mustn't over react and get carried away. Saracens are the best defensive side in the league and the best organised," he added.

Dai Young, the Wasps coach, accepted his side were comfortably second best on the day.

"They were a far better team than us," he said.

"We didn't help ourselves as we made too many fundamental mistakes. They were much more physically

dominant than us and we didn't have the artillery to match them."

Wasps are struggling with injuries and now face an important home game against fellow strugglers Worcester.

Young said: "Most of our injured players will not be returning for two to three weeks. Dom Waldouck and Jonathan Poff may return for the Worcester game but a few of our young forwards are being asked to play more regularly in the first 11 than they should do due to these injuries."
