Ulster will be without Paddy Wallace for the next three rounds of Heineken Cup action after the centre underwent surgery on a thumb injury.

The 31-year-old sustained the injury during his side's opening Heineken Cup Pool 4 victory over ASM Clermont Auvergne at the weekend.

It was hoped that surgery could have been avoided but after reassessment we underwent the operation on Wednesday to repair the tendon damage.

He has been ruled our for between 6 to 8 weeks meaning he will miss matches against Leicester Tigers and Aironi Rugby.
