Howlett to miss Scarlets face-off

Former All Blacks wing Doug Howlett has been ruled out of both legs of Munster's European Cup double-header against Scarlets after suffering an Achilles injury.

The Kiwi flyer sustained the injury in the Irish side's Pro12 defeat against Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday and will see a specialist to have a scan early this week.

Initial examination suggest he has damaged his Achilles tendon, although it remains to be seen how serious the injury is.

The news comes as a blow to the Pro12 champions who will want to bounce back from their defeat to the Ospreys when they take on a Scarlets team that was unbeaten for eight consecutive games before succumbing to Ulster at Ravenhill on Saturday.
