The European Rugby Cup (ERC) has announced that Nigel Owens will be refereeing his third Heineken Cup Final at Twickenham on 19 May 2012.

That is the day of the Final between to Irish sides - Leinster and Ulster.

On the previous occasion, Irish teams won the Final - Munster in 2009 and Leinster in 2009. An Irish hat-trick is assured.

The match will be the 70th Heineken Cup match for the 40-year-old Westwalian

Two French sides will contest the Amlin Challenge Cup Final at the Stoop on 18 May 2012. Wayne Barnes of England will be refereeing that one.

The ERC finals referee and assistant referee appointments were made by the ERC Match Officials Sub-Committee taking into consideration a comprehensive ongoing review of performances across all relevant tournaments in conjunction with the referee managers in each Union. Throughout both competitions, ERC also provides an opportunity for coaches to share their feedback on the performance of match officials and that feedback is considered in the review process.
