Ulster will be without Paddy Wallace for the next two months after the experienced centre underwent surgery on a thumb injury.

The 31-year-old sustained the injury during his side's opening European Cup Pool Four victory over ASM Clermont Auvergne last weekend.

It was hoped that surgery could have been avoided but after reassessment he underwent the operation on Wednesday to repair the tendon damage.

He has been ruled our for between 6 to 8 weeks meaning he will miss the European Cup matches against Leicester Tigers and Aironi Rugby.
