To compound Saints' degree of difficulty, Ulster are unbeaten in all competitions this season and they have not suffered a Heineken Cup home defeat since Stade Francais beat them 26-10 four years ago.
The English club are also without their captain Dylan Hartley, who has received a two-week ban after being cited for striking Ulster hooker Rory Best last Friday.
"I think that it stung so much because we were at home and conceded four tries," Northampton's England international full-back Ben Foden said, reflecting on last week's loss.
"The performance let us down, as individuals and as a team. There was no finger-pointing. We sat down and took the blame as a team, and we know we have to make things better.
"It is a big ask to go to Ravenhill and beat an undefeated side, but for us it is about pride, of getting back on track.
"A lot of people will write us off - which is probably a good thing - but we are probably at our most dangerous when teams take us for granted. We will be looking to put in a big performance at Ravenhill."
