Robshaw: Needs a big performance

The Harlequins flanker was unveiled on Monday as skipper for England's first two Six Nations matches against Scotland at Murrayfield and then Italy at the Stadio Olympico.

The 25-year-old, who was omitted from England's 2011 World Cup squad, has won just one international cap and is determined to prove his worth as a player in order to cement his standing as skipper.

"First and foremost, as a captain, you need to be playing well," he said. "You can't be captain if you're not in the team - I think it's as simple as that.

"I think you need to show the rest of your team-mates that you deserve actually to have a starting place before you can be issued with the honour of being captain. I'll have to play well and then we'll see what happens."

Robshaw admitted he has never played at Murrayfield and is eagerly awaiting his first outing at the historic stadium.

"At the moment, I'm quite relaxed about the whole process," he said. "But I'm sure come Thursday, Friday, I'll probably get a bit more nervous.

"It's one of those places I've never actually been to. As a rugby player, you want to play on the big stage.

"It is a daunting place and it is going to be very tough. But it's one everybody's looking forward to."
