Bulls have bought WP's best star

Bulls-bound win JJ Engelbrecht has been voted by his peers as Western Province's best player for 2011.

The WP Rugby Football Union held its annual awards on Wednesday and Engelbrecht scooped the top award - being named the 'Players Player of the Year', an award voted for by his peers.

Loose forward Nick Koster walked away with the award for 'Best Forward', the award for 'Best Backline player' went to Dewaldt Duvenage and Siya Kolisi was awarded the 'Most Promising Senior player' trophy.

However, in Pretoria they will celebrate the awards for very different reasons.

The Blue Bulls Company recently signed two of the most promising players in Cape Town - Johann Sadie and Engelbrecht, with the latter now rated by his peers as the province's best.

This comes just days after the WPRFU forked out millions to retain the services of Bok speedster Bryan Habana - who signed a new three-year deal with the union, after they beat off several offers from overseas clubs.

WP Rugby's CEO Rob Wagner also confirmed this past week that they are fighting off offers for Habana's teammate Jaque Fourie, who is in talks with several Japanese clubs.
