Rebels to share the load

The Melbourne Rebels have announced that Wales No.8 Gareth Delve will share the vice-captaincy for the upcoming Super Rugby season alongside developing leader Hugh Pyle.

Delve, vice-captain in the Rebel's inaugural season last year, became the first non-Australian captain of a Super Rugby side when he stepped in for skipper Stirling Mortlock for the round-nine match against the Highlanders.

The Rebels said Wednesday the decision to opt for a joint vice-captaincy was part of the club's leadership succession plan.

Delve, who previously captained Gloucester in the English premiership, said: "I look forward to guiding Hugh while allowing him to develop his own style of leadership."
