Stormers coach Allister Coetzee has reportedly turned down an offer to join Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer's coaching staff and is set to announce a contract extension with the Western Province Rugby Union.

Coetzee has experience at the highest level having served as Bok backline coach during Jake White's tenure, and was viewed as one of the favourites for the job late last year.

Considering his experience in the Springbok set-up and success as head coach of the Stormers, a team he has guided to second place in the Super Rugby competition in the last two years, his services were apparently sought by Meyer who is attempting to assemble his back-up staff.

However, Eyewitness News has reported that Coetzee will be announcing a contract extension that will keep him in Cape Town along with his two assistants Matthew Proudfoot and Robbie Fleck until 2015.

With the departure of Rassie Erasmus from the Cape franchise Coetzee has been asked to step in and take over his role as director of rugby on top of his job as head coach, and his rejection of Meyer's offer shows some strong commitment to the cause at Newlands.

Coetzee reportedly considered the offer carefully before turning Meyer down, and that could indicate that he would only be interested in getting involved with the Boks again if it is as head coach.
