Bulls' Bok will make full recovery

The Bulls' Springbok loose forward Dewald Potgieter may be set to miss the opening two months of the Super Rugby season, but he will make a full recovery from a horrific injury sustained at the weekend.

Potgieter, who suffered a deep laceration to his forearm in a freak accident at the weekend, underwent surgery on Sunday.

The big loose forward, who turns 25 on Wednesday, explained that it was a freak accident at a wedding at the weekend.

"Guys, just 4 record - wasnt a carcrash, I didnt fall thru a window. Also not several cuts, just one. Small Bath window broke as i opened it," he said on the social media network twitter.

The Bulls, in a media statement on Sunday, suggested Potgieter suffered "multiple cuts" to his arm.

"Tweeps, the accident - I pressed against a window 2 open it, the glass shattered and cut my forearm, severing some tendons. Op was a success," the six-times capped Bok said.

"The doc says my arm will be fully functional with 100% of its strength in 6 weeks."

Potgieter revealed that the accident at a friend’s wedding in Port Elizabeth at the weekend.

He was in the bathroom and I heard someone fall. He tried to open the window, but it was jammed. He put my hand up against the pane of glass and tried to push it and it went right through.

Potgieter was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery. He was released on Sunday.

Potgieter joins midfielder Wynand Olivier on the sidelines, along with his namesake Jacques, who is also nursing a back strain.

Bulls coach Frans Ludeke said he felt for Potgieter, who just returned from an ankle injury.

"Dewald worked very hard to get back in shape and ready for Super Rugby, so it is a setback to him and to the team. He was going to be an important cog in our loose trio combinations, but we are blessed to have some good depth in that position."
