Former New Zealand Under-20 prop Ben Tameifuna will make his Super Rugby debut as one of four changes to coach Dave Rennie's forward pack for their clash with the Blues this weekend.
The 138kg Tameifuna comes in for Ben Afeaki who broke his forearm in the loss to the Highlanders last week and he will pack down in the front row alongside his cousin and Tongan international Arizona Taumalolo and Samoan hooker Mahroni Schwalger who has replaced Hika Elliot.
Rennie has also shuffled his loose trio with flank Sam Cane and No.8 Fritz Lee both dropping down to the bench to make way for Tanerau Latimer and Samoan international Kane Thompson.
The only changes to the backline are injury-forced with Tawera Kerr-Barlow coming in for Brendan Leonard at scrumhalf and Asaeli Tikoirotuma slotting in on the right wing in the absence of Lelia Masaga.
Leonard's torn hamstring means that he has been ruled out for three months, so veteran scrumhalf Jamie Nutbrown has been called into the wider training group as cover.
Rennie said: "The injuries have meant there has been some movement in the team, but it also provides a great opportunity for the young guys to make their debut."
The Chiefs will be determined to register a win in front of their home crowd, especially after the way they faded against the Highlanders last week, but they will be up against a Blues outfit that are also hurting after losing their opening game against the Crusaders.
Chiefs: 15 Robbie Robinson, 14 Asaeli Tikoirotuma, 13 Richard Kahui, 12 Sonny Bill Williams, 11 Tim Nanai-Williams, 10 Aaron Cruden, 9 Tawera Kerr-Barlow, 8 Kane Thompson, 7 Tanerau Latimer, 6 Liam Messam, 5 Brodie Retallick, 4 Craig Clarke, 3 Ben Tameifuna, 2 Mahonri Schwalger, 1 Arizona Taumalolo.
