Anticipation is building in the Crusaders camp, with less than a fortnight to go until they take on the Cheetahs at the new Christchurch stadium.

It will be the first Super Rugby match to be held in Christchurch since May 2010.

"This will be a huge event, for the Crusaders, the fans and for Canterbury as a whole," Crusaders CEO Hamish Riach said.

"We have all missed having a stadium that we can truly call home, so we are immensely grateful to the Government, Christchurch City Council and all of the workers who have made this possible."

On Tuesday, March 13, the team that is going to be taking the field will thank the team that is making the field.

Crusaders team members will be visiting the new stadium at midday to thank the Hawkins Construction staff who are working on the transformation of Rugby League Park into the temporary Christchurch Stadium.

"We want to acknowledge and show our appreciation for the huge workload that these workers have taken on in order to make this stadium available for Super Rugby matches," Riach said.

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee added his thanks to the Hawkins team: "Since the Government announced that it would be helping to fund a new temporary stadium in Christchurch, these workers have literally been working around the clock to make this project a reality. We have set them enormously challenging deadlines and expectations, and we are grateful to them for stepping up to the plate and meeting those challenges."
