Jantjies injury worst that expected

Lions playmaker Elton Jantjies could be out of action for up to a month after it was discovered that his foot injury is more sever that originally expected.

The 21-year-old was a late withdrawal from the match against the Sharks last weekend, and could be set to miss the next few Super Rugby matches according to the Beeld newspaper.

Veteran Springbok flyhalf Butch James is a more than capable replacement for Jantjies, but the disappointment is that the youngster had shown some excellent early season form and will be badly missed.

The Lions have a bye this weekend, which will give the team a chance to further assess their already lengthy list of walking wounded.

Injury plagued centre Alwyn Hollenbach left the field with his latest setback against the Sharks, and could be sidelined for the next three weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Lions are already without CJ van der Linde (groin), JC Janse van Rensburg (toe), Wikus van Heerden (concussion), Bandise Maku (shoulder), Dylan des Fountain (knee), Michael Rhodes (knee) and Lionel Mapoe (hamstring).
