While tributes have been pouring in from all over the world for Kiwi rugby great Jock Hobbs, his son Michael's Blues teammates are determined to salute the legend through their actions on the field.

The loss of the former All Black captain and influential New Zealand rugby administrator to Leaukemia on Tuesday was met with great sadness across the rugby world, and nowhere more so than in the Blues camp.

Coach Pat Lam explained: "It has been quite an emotional time losing Michael Hobbs who has gone home to see his dad, and we were really pleased that he got that opportunity with him but to lose Jock Hobbs is a sad time for not only New Zealand rugby but world rugby."

Lam said that the best way for the Blues to pay tribute to Hobbs' memory would be to put in a big performance against the Stormers at Newlands this weekend.

"For us as a team we certainly want to play a big one this week and for the rest of the year. Michael is part of our team and Jock has been massive in what he has done for New Zealand rugby," he said.

Although they are far from home and are up against one of the most consistent teams in the competition, if the Blues do manage to pull off a win then it will be fitting tribute to a man who was well-known for his character and fighting spirit.
