Frédéric Michalak will be leaving Durban on the Indian Ocean and heading for Toulon on the Mediterranean.

The 29-year-old halfback has signed a three-year contract with president Mourad Boudjellal's ambitious club. He will join in 2012 and hopes to be in line for the French side at the 2015 World Cup. He has not played for France since February 2010 but the new coach Philippe Saint-André who approves of Michalak's move to flyhalf but wants to see him in action in the Top 14.

Michalak's signature is Boudjellal's early Christmas present to the club, which already has Jonny Wilkinson and Matt Giteau's on its books.

Earlier this year Michalak spoke about returning to France but made it clear that it would not be to Toulouse, the city of his birth and the club that brought him up.

Michalak made it clear that he would honour his contract with the Sharks. The contract ends at the end of Super Rugby, which will be well into the French season.
