Paul Perez, the big Samoan wing, is off to Castres as a 'medical joker'.

Castres have lost Rémi Talès and Rémi Lamérat to injuries. The later is Talès who damaged a left knee against Northampton in the Heineken Cup match and is out for five months or so.

Perez has represented Samoa at Sevens and again in the 2011 World Cup. He is 25 years of age.

Perez's first taste of representative rugby was for Taranaki in 2006. He played for the province for four years before being charged with twice assaulting (choking and punching) his pregnant girlfriend. He was found guilty and deported to Samoa.

He was then to go to Toulon but when he did not arrive his contract was cancelled. Visa problems were cited though Toulon was unaware of them. Perez was then contracted to play for Eastern Province in South Africa. He played for them in 2010 but missed 2011 through injury. He is still contracted to Eastern Province and is on loan for six months to Castres.
