Springboks coach Heyneke Meyer knows a pragmatic game-plan represents his side's best chance of finishing their Rugby Championship campaign with victory over the All Blacks.
The visitors have already clinched the title in the inaugural four-nation tournament after winning their first five matches, while the Springboks come into the match on the back of a five-try demolition of Australia in Pretoria last weekend.
"The key to victory will be striking a balance between running and kicking," said Meyer.
"There is always pressure on home teams to run a lot with the ball and that is exactly what the All Blacks like. If you give them turnovers, they will punish you.
"Naturally, we want to play great rugby and score tries, but we must find a balance between when to attack and when to play tactically."
World champions New Zealand, on a run of 15 straight Test wins and aiming to complete a perfect 12 months, can expect a hostile reception at the 90,000-plus FNB Stadium.
"We've played in most places around the world and we've found that most places are the same... the lines are marked out the same way and it's got a halfway and a 22," said All Blacks coach Steve Hansen.
"If you go out with that mindset, it doesn't matter where it is."
South Africa have named an unchanged line-up. Prop Coenie Oosthuizen returns from a neck injury in place of Pat Cilliers on the bench in the only alteration to the match-day squad.
New Zealand crushed Argentina 54-15 in La Plata last time out but have made two changes; Julian Savea loses his place on the wing to Hosea Gear despite two tries against the Pumas and Brodie Retallick comes in for Luke Romano in the second row.
