February 28: Butterfield England Debut

Jeff Butterfield is considered on of the best passers in England rugby football history and the center made his debut for England on this day in rugby history in 1953. HE scored a try in the 11-0 win over France at Twickenham.

Butterfield played for England for 6 years earning 28 consecutive caps. In his final year, he was named England captain and when he retired he was England most capped back.

England put in some impressive campaigns during Buttefield’s stint with the national team. They won the Five Nations 4 times, two triple crowns as well as a Grand Slam.

He toured with the British and Irish Lions on their 1955 tour of South Africa and scored tries in 3 of the 4 matches.
