Jonny Wilkinson is arguably the best English rugby player of all-time and set the international record with the most points scored in test match history on this day in rugby history in 2008. He entered the match tied with Neil Jenkins at 1090 points and set the record with a 27th minute penalty.
Unfortunately the mark came in a Six Nations 15-9 loss to Scotland and included being benched by England coach Brian Ashton for the final match of the Six Nations.

Wilkinson was aided in his pursuit of the record when the International Rugby Board allowed the British and Irish Lions match against Argentina to count toward official records. Wilkinson scored 20 in that match.
Wilkinson is best remembered for his drop goal that won England the 2003 Rugby World Cup but it was only one of many. When the flyhalf called time on his international career he had amassed 1,246 points from six tries, 162 conversions, 239 penalties and a record 36 drop-goals
