Gareth Edwards, considered to be the best player in rugby history, played his final match for Wales on this day in rugby history in 1978. The end was a good one as the Dragon defeated France 16-7 at Arms Park in Cardiff.
The win completed a Grand Slam as well as a third consecutive Triple Crown run for the Dragon.

He played an integral part in the final, setting up the two tries by Phil Bennett and kicking a drop-goal of his own.
Edwards earned 53 caps for Wales during his career.
In his list of top players of all-time in The Telegraph, former England captain Will Carling said of Edwards; "He was a supreme athlete with supreme skills, the complete package. He played in the 1970s, but, if he played now, he would still be the best. He was outstanding at running, passing, kicking and reading the game. He sits astride the whole of rugby as the ultimate athlete on the pitch".
