After announcing that Argentina would join SANZAR’s premier national team competition the Tri-Nations in 2009, the IRB helped seal that move when they ratified a multi-million dollar deal to help with the transition on this day in rugby history in 2010.
The package involved $10 million dollars in funding from the inaugural year 2012 through the 2015 competition.

Argentina are the only Tier 1 team with no annual competition to compete in and for years have worked toward changing that fact. The Argentina Rugby Union (UAR) even evaluated joining the Six Nations in the northern hemisphere to achieve that goal.
One of the biggest issues with Argentina joining was related to finances and this resolution by the IRB helped alleviate those concerns.
