Rugby Shorts
Rugby is common on television (OK not so much so in the U.S.) but that has not always been the case and it was on this day in rugby history in 1927 that the first live radio broadcast took place.
The BBC broadcast featured the opening Five Nations match between England and Wales at Twickenham with the home side winning 11-9. The broadcast immediately showed how difficult it was to relate what was happening on the pitch.
The World Rugby Shop has the best selection of official replica rugby jerseys from around the globe.
This was also the first ever radio commentary on a team game in the UK and was followed 1 week later with the first radio commentary of a soccer game between Arsenal and Sheffield United. This match learned from many of the problems of the rugby broadcast.
And also on this day in rugby history, England played their first match at the new Twickenham Stadium on this day in 1910.
