Ulster, with a team composed of many part-time players, defeated Colomiers 21-6 at Lansdowne Road on this day in rugby history in 1999 to win the Heineken Cup. They became the first Irish club to win Europe’s top club competition.
Simon Mason led the way for Ulster kicking six penalties with fly-half David Humphreys adding a captain’s drop-goal.

The fourth edition of the Heineken Cup featured teams from Ireland, France, Italy, Scotland, and Wales. English sides stayed home due to a dispute between the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and European Rugby.
Ulster was forced to march through France to win the title. They defeated Toulouse in the group stage and then in the quarterfinals, before downing Stade Francais in the semifinals and closing out their run with the win over Colomiers in the final.
