The daily life in England came to a stop, including the postponement of the England vs Ireland Five Nations match, on this day in rugby history in 1952 due to the death of King George VI three days earlier.

The funeral observations closed down much of England.

The rugby match was eventually played on March 29 in snowy conditions which made play difficult. England prevailed 3-0 and finished that year’s Five Nations in second place. Wales went on to win the Five Nations that year with a Grand Slam.
