The Barbarians vs New Zealand All Blacks matches have become classic and it all started when the two famous sides meet for the first time in front of 60,000 at Cardiff Arms Park on this day in rugby history in 1954. The tourist won 19-5.

The match included the first haka on the 1954 tour and was the first time recorded singing of Now is the Hour, the Maori farewell hymn.

The two sides did not meet for the next 10 years but have played some classics with the January 27, 2973 match considered by many the best rugby match of all-time.
